In April 2020, faced with the health crisis, the Government of Canada launched a call for 100% subsidized research projects.
Aware of the resources available in the armada of essential oils, when I was still at the helm of Aliksir, we joined forces with the National Institute for Scientific Research (INRS) to demonstrate the viral inactivation potential of essential oils. pure and natural!
In collaboration with Karelle Contant , master's student in applied microbiology, under the direction of Ms. Monique Lacroix, Ph.D. , professor at the Center Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie , we have started the following project: Evaluation of the inhibitory power of essential oils in the form of an emulsion and a vapor on the viral replication of the coronavirus MHV-A59. (little cousin of SARS-CoV-2 used in the laboratory in viral inactivation tests with essential oils).
The first phase has been completed since November 2021; 2022 made it possible to test the behavior of oils in the vapor phase and we will soon lead to recipe proposals and recommendations for the prevention of viral contagion. To eventually reach the field of public health, we would have to go further and do more tests. For this step, natural products rely on public funds because they cannot make money from patents.
Applying the precautionary principle while waiting for clinical tests, we want to be proactive and preventive, because a precaution, even without scientific guarantee, deserves to be taken into account, especially if it brings you joy and adds to your quality of life.
